The FX series
The FX series began life in 1945, covering many different revisions and overhauls:
- FX experimental prototype built in 1945 for testing purposes
- The FX was underpowered, and was replaced by the FX2, which had an all-new chassis, a new 1.8 litre 14hp OHV petrol engine and a prototype body to exactly the same design as would be fitted to the FX3
- The FX3 was launched in 1948; a combined effort by Austin and Carbodies Ltd;
- The FX4 was released in 1958, utilising a 2.2 litre diesel engine
- In 1961, the FX4 was available with a 2.2 litre petrol engine option
- The FX4 received a facelift in 1968
- In 1971, the FX4D is released
- In 1982, the FX4R is released; using a 2.25 litre Land Rover diesel engine (to comply with emissions legislation)
- The FX4S, the first cab to use the LTI name, was produced between 1985 - 1987, using a 2.5 litre Land Rover diesel engine
- The FX4S Plus was available between 1987 - 1988 and featured more driver amenities, and a distinctive grey interior
