Environmental issues

LTI's TX4 complies with the latest European Directive for End of Life Vehicles (ELVs) (2000/53/EC).

At the end of the taxis life, the disposal, recovery and recyclability can be carried out with the minimum impact on our environment.

Through innovative design and ongoing product improvement, LTI has reduced the use of hazardous substances to levels lower than those demanded by new European Legislation and the recyclability targets which came into force in 2006 are comfortably met.

A number of components in our vehicles are already produced from recycled material and LTI's policy of promoting increased use of these materials will ensure the impact of our vehicles on the environment will be reduced on an ongoing basis.

To facilitate disposal in an environmentally friendly manner LTI Vehicles has partnered with Autogreen Ltd.

Autogreen, in its role as the service provider for LTI end of life taxis, will provide a contracted network of "take back" and "Authorised Treatment Facilities" (ATFs) throughout the United Kingdom. This process ensures that re-use, recovery and recycling targets are met.

Autogreen will take back, free of charge, any qualifying ELVs that are presented by the last owner or keeper.

A qualifying vehicle is legally defined as follows:

  • The vehicle must be delivered to a manufacturer/importer appointed free take back facility (in our case, Autogreen Ltd).
  • The vehicle must be complete, containing the essential components of the vehicle including the engine, transmission, coachwork, wheels and catalyst (where originally fitted).
  • The vehicle must be free of additional waste (such examples include garden/household waste, additional tyres, etc.).

All of the Autogreen contracted ATF partner sites are fully compliant with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) standards and have been approved and licensed by the Environmental Agency. Additionally all contracted sites operate state of the art recycling equipment.

Via their computerised links to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) they will be able to de-register the taxis, whereby the last owner's responsibility for the vehicle ends, and a unique Certificate of Destruction (COD) will be issued.

If you have an end of life vehicle enquiry or wish to find the nearest LTI appointed recycling facility, please contact Autogreen on 0800 542 2002 or email them at info@autogreen.org. You can also visit their website at www.autogreen.org.
